Adam Rippon (born November 11, 1989 in Scranton , Pennsylvania ) is an American figure skater who starts in a single run . He is the 2010 four continents champion .
Personal
Rippon is the oldest of six children. He was born deaf but can now hear almost perfectly after surgery at Yale University . Rippon began figure skating at the age of ten after his mother, who played the sport, took him to the ice rink.
In October 2015, Rippon came out as gay.
Career
Rippon became Junior World Champion in 2008 and defended this title the following year as the first figure skater in history. His trainer was originally Jelena Sergejewna. In 2007 he moved to Nikolai Morozov . In 2008 he went to Brian Orser . Rippon is currently being trained by Rafael Arutunian . He starts for the Skating Club of New York.
In 2010, Rippon won the Four Continents Championships. Due to the cancellations of Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir , Rippon played his first senior world championship in 2010 in Turin , where he immediately finished sixth. He made his second appearance at the World Championships as US runner-up two years later in Nice . There it was only enough for thirteenth place.
It was another three years before Rippon was able to qualify for a world championship again, until 2015, when he again competed as US runner-up and came in eighth at the world championship in Shanghai .
In January 2016, Adam Rippon became the US senior citizen for the first time , making him the most promising US American for the home World Cup in Boston . Rippon did not disappoint the high expectations. In the freestyle he tried the fourfold Lutz ; however, this was devalued to him as undervalued. Nevertheless, the noticeably matured American showed a relaxed and rousing freestyle for a Beatles medley, which was received with cheers from the audience in the end. In the end it was enough for him to finish sixth after the fourth-best freestyle on the field. He improved his personal best points in the short program (85.72), freestyle (178.72) and overall performance (264.44). Thanks to the two third places at Skate America and the Trophée de France , where he ran his best freestyle to date and stood a four-way toe loop for the first time, he qualified for the first time in his career for the Grand Prix final , where he finished sixth occupied.
In 2017 he managed to qualify for the Olympic Games , where he finished tenth in the individual run and took part in the bronze medal in the team competition. He has not run another competition since then, but has not officially resigned.
In 2019 he published his autobiography "Beautiful on the Outside - A Memoir".
