biography
Wylie began figure skating at the age of three. When he was 11, his family moved to Denver , Colorado , where he trained with Carlo Fassi for nine years . That year, Wylie won the US Junior Championships in pair skating with his then figure skating partner Dana Graham . At the same junior championships he also won the men's silver medal. In the absence of financial support, he ended the pair skating. The following year he won both the US Men's Junior Championships and the Men's Junior World Championships . In 1985 he changed coaches, went to Boston and from then on worked with coach Evy Scotvold and choreographer Mary Scotvold . He also studied at Harvard University .
Paul Wylie was runner-up in the US championships in 1988, 1990 and 1992 and surprisingly won the silver medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . At world championships , he was never on the ninth place out come and at the national championships before the Olympics he showed such poor performance that many questioned his nomination in question.
After these Winter Olympics, he turned professional . He appeared from 1992 to 1998 at the ice revue Stars on Ice and won the 1993 World Championships among professionals. After 1998 he went to Harvard Business School and worked in business. In the meantime he worked for The Walt Disney Company . After 2004, he returned to Stars on Ice for 22 appearances and also worked for An Evening with Champions , the figure skating event launched by John Misha Petkevich at Harvard University to raise funds for cancer charities. Wylie also works as a sports commentator for ESPN and Universal Sports .
On August 14, 1999, Wylie married Kate Presbrey. He has three children with her and lives in Charlotte , North Carolina , where he also worked for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, a Christian institution founded by Billy Graham. He currently has his own company, an agency for sports-oriented tourism. He also trains figure skaters at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail.
