Yan Han ( Chinese 闫 涵 , Pinyin Yán Hán ; born March 6, 1996 in Harbin , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese figure skater who starts in a single run .
Career
Beginnings and world class among the juniors
Yan Han started figure skating in 2001 at the age of five. He trains most of the time in his hometown at the Harbin Training Center, but also does training sessions in Beijing . He first attracted attention at the 2010 Chinese Seniors Championships, which were held in Beijing in September 2009. With the best score in the short program and freestyle, he won his first title with 194.68 points. A short time later it had its first start at an ISU Junior Grand Prix. At the event in Istanbul he was able to clinch victory straight away.
In the 2010/2011 season he started at the Junior Grand Prix events in Graz and Ostrava . He won both competitions and was able to qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final in Beijing. There he took second place behind the American Richard Dornbush . A short time later he was able to successfully defend his title at the Chinese Championships in 2011. At the end of the season he started at the Junior World Championships in Gangneung . With 187.49 points, it was only sixth there. The Canadian Andrei Rogozine , whom he had defeated in the Junior Grand Prix final, became the new junior world champion .
The 2011/2012 season began for Yan Han with a victory in the Asian Figure Skating Trophy . At the Chinese Championships in Changchun in 2012 , with 197.47 points, this time it was only third place behind Song Nan and Wu Jialiang . He then started again at two Junior Grand Prix events in Innsbruck and Milan , both of which he was able to win. In Milan he increased his personal best to 219.37 points. At the Junior Grand Prix final in Québec it was again only enough to finish second, this time behind the American Jason Brown . In January, he competed against the national competition for the second time of the season in the winter edition of the Chinese National Games in the seniors. Song Nan also won this meeting, but Yan Han finished second. Shortly afterwards he achieved his greatest success to date at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck. With a clear gap he won the gold medal ahead of the Japanese Shoma Uno and the Russian Feodossi Yefremenkow . A little later, in Minsk , Yan Han became the first Chinese ever to become Junior World Champion . He relegated the Americans Joshua Farris and Jason Brown to their places.
Seniors
In 2013, Yan Han made his debut at the Four Continents Championships . In Osaka he won his first medal with bronze at an international senior championship.
In 2014, Yan made his Olympic and world championships debut . In Sochi he reached seventh place. He did the same at the World Championships in Saitama . This season, Yan also won his first Grand Prix competition, the Cup of China , and qualified for the Grand Prix final for the first time , which he finished in sixth place.
In 2015, Yan won his second bronze medal in this competition at the Four Continents Championships in Seoul. At the World Cup , he could not improve compared to the previous year and was tenth.
In 2016, the Chinese won the bronze medal for the third time at the Four Continents Championships in Taipei. He set a new personal best in points in the freestyle (181.98) and the overall performance (271.55). Yan suffered a setback at the World Championships in Boston when he surprisingly failed to qualify for the freestyle after a disastrous short program.
