Career

Li started figure skating at the age of five. He was inspired by Chen Lu , the 1995 world champion and two-time bronze medal winner at the Winter Olympics , who he watched in the local ice rink. Li's parents were also ice skaters and now work as trainers.

Li is the first Chinese to win an ISU competition ( Four Continents Championships 2001).

At the World Figure Skating Championships in Washington in 2003 , he narrowly missed a medal in fourth. It was the best placing of a male Chinese figure skater in the singles. In 2000 , 2002 and 2005 he was fifth at the World Championships .

He participated in the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City in 2002 and in Turin in 2006 , finishing them in 9th and 16th place.

The six-time Chinese champion competed for four-time toe loops and four-time salchows . His trainer was Haijun Gao , and his choreographers Liu Wei and Lori Nichol . His personal best is 210.94 points, which he achieved at the 2003 Cup of Russia .

Today he works as a trainer for individual runners. The athletes Li Zijun and Zhang Kexin, who are supervised by Li, are the first Chinese women since Chen Lu to achieve places in the top ten in this discipline at world championships.
