Statuette of Ebiḫ-Il
The statuette of Ebiḫ-Il is an approximately 50 cm high prayer statuette made of alabaster . It was probably made in the 25th century BC. And is preserved in several fragments. It was found in 1934 during French excavations in Mari ( Tell Hariri ) and is now exhibited in the Louvre in Paris (inventory number: AO 17551).
The statuette shows a seated man in a prayer position. His head is bald, but he has a long beard. He is dressed in a skirt. The eyes are made from a composition of mica slate , mussel shells and lapis lazuli and inserted into corresponding recesses. The figure's feet have not yet been found.
On the shoulder there is an inscription that the statue was dedicated to the goddess Inanna / Ištar by the official Ebiḫ-Il .
