Stechinelli Chapel
The Stechinelli Chapel in Wieckenberg , a district of the municipality of Wietze in the Lower Saxony district of Celle , was the manor chapel of Francesco Maria Capellini, known as Stechinelli .
history
The enterprising Stechinelli was in 1678 for a general-Erb postmaster of Guelph appointed principalities. Emperor Leopold I raised the Capellini family to hereditary imperial nobility in 1688 , with the name of Wickenburg . In addition to many other buildings and lands, Stechinelli owned an estate in Wieckenberg with a baroque pleasure garden as a summer residence, of which a gate and a baroque fountain are still preserved today. Duke Georg Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg allowed him to build a (Catholic) church here, but stipulated that it should not be recognizable as a place of worship at first glance. The construction of the chapel in the style of a farmhouse began in 1692. The chapel was consecrated in 1699. Stechinelli had died in 1694. At his request, the building was then used as a Protestant church.
Extensive restorations were carried out in 1911, 1992 and, for the last time, in 2008.
Today the chapel belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover . Since October 2008 it has been a station on the Jakobusweg Lüneburg Heath .
Furnishing
The interior of the chapel is in the Italian Baroque style. It contains an ornate pulpit. The carved altar is carried by two angels. It contains figures of the apostles older than the church. The altarpiece shows the coat of arms of Stechinelli and that of his second wife (hat and rose). Next to the altar are two squire praises . The baptismal bowl is held by a wooden, floating angel . The painting of the wooden ceiling and the glass windows were restored to their original condition in 1981/82 when the second painting from the 18th century was reconstructed. Several children's heads can be seen in the ceiling painting. It is believed that they are supposed to represent Stechinelli's children.
