Steel Heart is an American hard rock - / hair metal - band of Norwalk , Connecticut . She released several successful albums and singles in the early 1990s.

history

Steelheart originated in Norwalk, Connecticut in the early 1980s under the name Red Alert . After years of dangling through clubs, the band finally landed a deal with MCA Records in the late 1980s and was then renamed Steelheart . The band at that time consisted of Mike Matijevic (vocals), the two guitarists Chris Risola and Frank Di Costanzo, James Ward (bass) and John Fowler (drums). The resulting debut album, titled after the band Steelheart and released on May 10, 1990, was a huge hit for the band thanks to the power ballad I'll Never Let You Go and massive airplay on MTV . The single reached number 23 on the US Hot 100 , the album made it to number 40 on the album charts and also brought Steelheart a platinum record .

The follow-up album Tangled in Reins was released in 1992 and entered the Billboard album charts at number 144 . On the following tour with Slaughter , singer Mike Matijevic was hit in the head by a falling light beam in the McNichols Arena in Denver and was seriously injured, which is why the band paused for some time in their activities. Meanwhile, the growing importance of grunge resulted in a massive loss of popularity for hair metal bands. During a performance on October 31, 1992 in McNichol's Arena in Denver, Milijenko Matijevic climbed up a light truss without realizing that it was not secured. Before he could get to safety from the falling traverse, it hit him in the back of the head and inflicted severe head injuries. The band's tour was canceled and the band fell apart. Milijenko Matijevic suffered from the consequences of the accident for months and then worked hard on his comeback.

In 1996 Matijevic tried a new attempt with a different line-up and released the album Wait , which was quite successful in Asia, but in the rest of the world either flopped or did not even appear.

In March 2005 it was announced that Matijevic was working with Steelheart on a new album. In the studio he was supported by the bassist Sigve Sjuresen, the guitarist Uros Rasovski and the drummer Mike Humbert. The band's first DVD was released in November 2006. Still Hard contains three hours of concert recordings, videos and interviews. Also in November, Steelheart went on tour for the first time in years. In addition to Matijevic and drummer Mike Humbert, bassist Myron Dove and the two guitarists T-Bone Andersson as well as the returnees Chris Risola belonged to the band. In addition, the EP Just a Taste was released, which should offer a foretaste of the new album Samurai . This was finally published in November 2008, but under the changed title Good 2B Alive.

On March 21, 2008, founding member John Fowler died of complications from a brain aneurysm that he suffered four days earlier.
