Stefan Behm

Stefan Behm (born December 10, 1929 in Northampton , Pennsylvania , † October 16, 2005 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1977 to 1991 Behm was a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Behm was born in the USA as the son of the waiter Ferdinand Behm, where his father most recently worked in a managerial position in the service of a large restaurant and in a mail order expedition in New York . In 1931, Behm moved back to Moschendorf with his parents . His parents emigrated again to the USA in 1936 and left their son Stefan with his grandparents. Behm attended elementary school in Moschendorf between 1936 and 1944 and then worked in his grandparents' farm. In 1946 he was entrusted with the management of the agricultural business, which he took over completely in 1950. As a farmer, Behm was awarded the professional title of economics council in 1985 . As a farmer, Behm was also councilor of the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture from 1968 to 1985 .

In the political field, Behm was active as a local councilor in Moschendorf between 1958 and 1967, and in 1960 he was also elected as the local ÖVP party chairman. He was then mayor of Moschendorf from 1967 to 1970 and after the amalgamation of the municipalities in 1971 he took over the office of mayor of Strem , which he held until 1992. In addition, Behm was the district chairman of the farmers' union from 1973 to 1993 and represented the ÖVP between December 16, 1977 and July 18, 1991 in the Burgenland state parliament .

The political focal points of Behm's work included pension and social issues as well as the further development of the Pinka and Strem valley . The Moschendorf Wine Museum was founded on his initiative .
