Stefan Belz

Stefan Belz (born June 23, 1980 in Böblingen ) is a German local politician. He has been Lord Mayor of Böblingen since April 2018 .

Life

Belz grew up in Sindelfingen, passed the Abitur at the Stiftsgymnasium in Sindelfingen and then moved back to Böblingen. With a degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Stuttgart from 2000 to 2006, Belz initially embarked on an academic career and graduated with a degree in engineering . He did his doctorate at the Institute for Space Systems and was employed there as a research assistant .

Belz has been involved in voluntary work in sports and music since his youth. He lives with his partner in Böblingen.

politics

In 2011 Belz joined the Alliance 90 / The Greens party . From 2012 to 2014 he was the spokesman for the local association Böblingen / Schönbuch, then an assessor on the board. In the 2014 local elections, Belz entered the Böblingen municipal council for his party's parliamentary group and was elected parliamentary group manager.

In 2016, Belz ran as a substitute candidate together with first candidate Thekla Walker in constituency 05 Böblingen for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the state election in Baden-Württemberg .

In October 2017, Belz announced that it would run for the office of Lord Mayor in Böblingen the following year. In the election, he prevailed in the first ballot with a share of 51.3% of the votes against the incumbent incumbent, Wolfgang Lützner ( CDU ). Belz took office in April 2018. Tülay Sanmaz became the successor to his seat in the local council.
