Stephan Clessin

Stephan Clessin , also Stefan, (born November 13, 1833 in Würzburg , † December 21, 1911 in Regensburg ) was a German malacologist and paleontologist .

His main occupation was an officer and later with the Bavarian state railway . He had a wide range of scientific interests, especially in malacology, but also, for example, about human prehistory. He also dealt with fossil mollusks, especially from the Quaternary near Regensburg. Clessin was not an academic, but was in contact with many scientists.

Several initial descriptions come from him. He received the golden Linnaeus medal from the Swedish Academy of Sciences .
