Stefan Häusl (born June 19, 1976 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian freeride athlete and is considered Austria's most successful male skier on the Freeride World Tour . The state-certified ski instructor, ski guide and trainer rode on the Freeride World Tour for 9 years and was able to win numerous podium places. He can also be seen in documentaries and ski films.
biography
Stefan Häusl was born in Salzburg and grew up in Saalfelden . He started skiing when he was three years old. He was a junior ski racer until he ended his career due to an injury. He began his ski instructor training at the age of 17 and became a state-certified ski instructor at the age of 21. After completing his training as a ski guide, he then became a trainer in the state ski instructor training in Austria. Häusl spent the summer months in Australia, where he worked for the Race Department Mt. Buller in Australia for four years . In winter he worked for seven years at the St. Christoph Ski Academy run by the ÖSV .
Competitive career
Häusl drove his first freeride competition in Canada in 1999 . At Powder 8 he became world champion together with Thomas Dietrich. In the following year they took 3rd place. He decided to devote himself professionally to freeride sport. In his first European competition in Verbier, the Verbier Ride, he reached 7th place and improved to 4th place in his second competition in Riksgränsen .
In 2009, Häusl won the Freeride World Qualifier Tour and thus qualified for the Freeride World Tour 2010, which he then contested with 7th place in the overall ranking. He celebrated his first victory on the Freeride World Tour in 2011 on Austrian soil in Fieberbrunn . In the same year he entered the final competition of the Tour in Verbier as the leader in the overall rating. However, he fell and fell to 4th place overall.
In March 2018 he announced his retirement from the competition. In terms of the number of placements on the Freeride World Tour, he is the most successful male freeride skier in Austria of all time.
Film career
In addition to taking part in freeride competitions, he also began to work in ski film productions. In 2004 his first ski film, Spirit of Ski, was released . 9 other film productions followed, such as the award-winning films Dasein and Schneewallfahrt, produced by Hanno Mackowitz.
After finishing his active competitive career, Häusl concentrated on skiing in front of the camera. His goals from now on are large and alpine lines. As a state-certified trainer, he teaches young freeriders. He looks after the freeride team at the Arlberg Ski Club .
