Stefan Körzell (born January 18, 1963 in Bosserode , Hessen) is a German trade unionist and has been a member of the executive board of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) since May 12, 2014 .

Life

After attending the comprehensive school in Wildeck - Obersuhl , Stefan Körzell completed his training as a machine fitter at Rotenburger Metallwerke (RMW) in Rotenburg an der Fulda . In 1980, at the age of 17, he joined IG Metall and, as a youth spokesman, was successfully committed to taking on all trainees at Rotenburger Metallwerke. During the dispute about the introduction of the 35-hour week , Körzell was a member of the company and local strike leadership.

From 1990 he was DGB organization secretary in the DGB district of Fulda and from 1991 in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district of the DGB. He has been a member of the SPD since 1993. In 1997 he was elected chairman of the DGB district Bad Hersfeld-Eschwege. His main topics are the career and life prospects of young people as well as social and labor market policy.

On February 2, 2002, the delegates of the eight DGB trade unions elected him as the state chairman of Hesse and chairman of the DGB district of Hesse-Thuringia with its around 620,000 union members. He campaigned for the interests of employees on the administrative boards of the Employment Agency , the AOK Hessen and the German pension insurance at federal and state level.

Since 2004 he has been the deputy chairman of the Folk High School in Fürsteneck and since 2006 chairman of the DGB-Bildungswerk Hessen. From 2006 to 2008, Körzell was the person of trust for the lawsuit against the introduction of tuition fees before the State Court of Hesse.

On January 30, 2010, he was re-elected for the second time with a large majority as chairman of the DGB district Hesse-Thuringia.

In 2014, he was elected a member of the executive DGB federal executive committee at the 20th federal congress of the DGB. He was confirmed in this office at the 2018 Congress.

Körzell is a member of the Broadcasting Council of the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation . He was sent several times by the SPD to the Federal Assembly to elect a Federal President.

Stefan Körzell is married. He has a grown son.
