Neighboring communities
Wildeck borders in the north on the municipality of Nentershausen (in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg) and the city of Sontra (in the Werra-Meißner district ), in the east on the Thuringian municipality of Gerstungen ( Wartburg district ), in the southeast and south on the Thuringian city of Werra-Suhl -Tal (Wartburgkreis) with the districts Berka / Werra , Dankmarshausen and Großensee and the city of Heringen , in the southwest to the municipality of Friedewald and to the west to the municipality of Ronshausen (all three in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district).
history
The name of the village comes from the Office Wildeck , the today's districts Obersuhl and Hönebach and belonging to Obersuhl Weiler Almushof and Schildhof belonged and that in the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Fulda was under. The official seat was at Wildeck Castle , which stood on the Schloßberg near Raßdorf.
Richelsdorf was first mentioned in 1277 when the monastery in Fulda ceded the site to the Nikolaikloster in Eisenach for the construction of a nunnery . However, the monastery was never built. In 1325 the office went to the brothers Friedrich and Hermann von Colmatsch as a fief . Today's district of Eisenach, Hötzelsroda , went to the Nikolaikloster in exchange. The feudal lordship fell to the Hessian landgraves in 1539. After those of Colmatsch died out in 1562, the place fell to Hesse .
The rugged state border in the south and east still bears testimony to the disputes between the Landgraves of Hesse and Thuringia and the Fulda Abbey. These disputes continued throughout the Middle Ages until modern times .
The copper extraction in Wildeck was mentioned for the first time in 1460. Cobalt has also been mined in the Richelsdorfer Hütte since 1708 . This increased the importance of the hut and the not far away Friedrichshütte in Iba (now part of Bebra ), so that the mining office was moved from Sontra to Richelsdorf.
From 1627 the Wildeck office belonged to the Landgrave of Hesse-Rotenburg as part of the Rotenburger Quart . He developed it as a hunting area and for this purpose had the Blumenstein hunting lodge built on the remains of Wildeck Castle . In 1848 the entire landgrave property of the extinct Rotenburger Quart fell to the state.
From 1945 to 1990 the community was in the immediate vicinity of the inner-German border .
Incorporations
As part of the community reform, the new community of Wildeck was created on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previously independent communities of Bosserode, Hönebach, Obersuhl, Raßdorf and Richelsdorf.
