Stefan Karadscha
Stefan Karadscha , actually Stefan Todorow , ( Bulgarian Стефан Караджа ; born May 11, 1840 in Imche ; † July 31, 1868 in Rustschuk ) was a Bulgarian heathen leader .
Life
Stefan Karadscha was a member of the First Bulgarian Legion in Belgrade in 1862 . In 1864 and 1866 he was the leader of free troops in the Balkan Mountains . In Romania he set up a free group together with Hadschi Dimitar . In July 1868 he moved to Bulgaria with this unit. He suffered a serious wound during a battle with Ottoman troops. He was captured and then executed.
His place of birth was later named after him as Stefan Karadscha. There is a monument dedicated to him in Rustschuk. He has also been the namesake of the Stefan Karadzha Peak in Antarctica since 2015 . In the television show Welikite Balgari in 2006, Stefan Karadscha was voted 78th among the largest Bulgarians by Bulgarian television viewers.
