Stefan Knop

Stefan Tobias Knop (* 1971 ) is a German hematologist and oncologist and professor at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Life

Knop comes from the small town of Balingen in Baden-Württemberg and studied human medicine at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen after graduating from high school . After completing the medical state examination , he did his doctorate in 2000 on the topic of "Use of the cytoprotective amifostine to reduce toxic side effects of chemotherapy with the cytostatic drugs cisplatin and ifosfamide". Until 2005 he completed a five-year further training period at the University Hospital Tübingen and then moved to the University Hospital Würzburg , where he completed his habilitation in 2010 . On December 22, 2015, Knop was appointed university professor for "Clinical and Translational Myeloma Research" in Würzburg .

Act

In his clinical and scientific work, Knop is primarily concerned with multiple myeloma , a cancer of the bone marrow . For this purpose, the “Wilhelm Sander Therapy Unit Multiple Myeloma” was established at the University Hospital Würzburg, which is funded by the Wilhelm Sander Foundation and managed by Knop together with Hermann Einsele . Knop also places particular emphasis on teaching. In 2012, for example, he received the Albert Kölliker teaching award from the medical faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg for his extracurricular lecture series “Differential Diagnosis of Internal Medicine” .
