Hermann Einsele

Hermann Christof Einsele (* 1958 in Stuttgart ) is a German hematologist and oncologist and professor at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Life

Hermann Einsele was born as the son of Ruth and Gerhard Einsele in Stuttgart. After graduating from high school, he studied human medicine in Tübingen , Manchester and London and completed his studies in 1984 with the medical state examination. During his time as an assistant doctor at the Tübingen University Hospital , he undertook research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried and at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle . In 1986 he received his doctorate on the subject of "Investigation of peroxidative reactions in erythrocytes ", and in 1992 he completed his habilitation . In 1999 Einsele was appointed adjunct professor . Since 2004, Einsele has succeeded Klaus Wilms as director of the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic II at the University Hospital Würzburg and professor for Internal Medicine II at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg. In 2014 he was elected to the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz . Since October 2015 Einsele has been one of five Vice Presidents of the University of Würzburg.

Act

Einsele is one of the world's leading experts in the field of multiple myeloma and invasive aspergillosis in hematological and oncological patients. His research is funded by the German Research Foundation , the German Cancer Aid , the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation , the National Institutes of Health and the Wilhelm Sander Foundation , among others . In 2003 he received the Van Bekkum Award from the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation , the highest annual European award for research in the field of stem cell transplantation . In 2013, the “Wilhelm Sander Multiple Myeloma Therapy Unit” was founded at the Würzburg University Hospital, funded by the Wilhelm Sander Foundation and managed by Einsele together with Stefan Knop . For the period from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021, Einsele was elected Chairman of the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO).
