Stefan Müller (athlete)

Stefan Müller (born September 20, 1979 ) is a former Swiss athlete . Müller holds the Swiss record for javelin throwing and achieved seventh place in this discipline at the 2006 European Athletics Championships .

Müller grew up in Winterthur . At a young age he was an excellent runner , so as a ten-year-old he was cantonal champion in the 1000-meter run. He later specialized in javelin throwing and won several medals at young Swiss championships.

In 2004 Müller experienced a setback when he had to undergo elbow surgery and therefore missed the Olympic Games .

The following year he won the bronze medal at the Universiade . In 2006 he was the first Swiss man to throw the new spear over 80 meters. His width of 80.87 m brought him to seventh place at the European Athletics Championships in 2006 .

Due to a disc herniation , Müller started the season later in 2007, but reached the limit for the World Athletics Championships in Lucerne at the end of June . In the following year, Müller could not use his full potential and missed qualifying for the Olympic Games . In 2009 he was able to qualify for the World Athletics Championships again , but clearly missed the finals.

In 2010, Müller suffered a torn ligament in his left ankle at the training camp in South Africa and therefore missed the whole season. Minor injuries threw him back in 2011, which is why he could not qualify for the World Athletics Championships . In September 2011 he announced his retirement from top-class sport

Müller starts for the LV Winterthur , his trainer is Therry McHugh . Müller is 1.90 m tall and studies at the ETH .
