Stefan M. Knoll

Stefan M. Knoll (born December 26, 1957 in Augsburg ) is a German entrepreneur , lawyer and reserve officer (Colonel d. R.) in the German armed forces . He is CEO of DFV Deutsche Familienversicherung .

Career

After graduating from high school in Frankfurt a. M. he began studying law at the University of Augsburg , which he completed in 1986 with the second state examination. During this time he was a research assistant at the chair for labor, commercial and civil law at Herbert Buchner . Following his work there, he completed a doctorate in law in 1989 .

He started his career at Allianz SE in 1988. This was followed by various positions, preferably in sales, most recently as a branch director and head of sales. In 1994 he left the company and became an entrepreneur. Together with his business partner, Philipp JN Vogel, he founded DIATEL DIREKT Assekuranz-Marketing GmbH and acted as its managing director and partner until 1998. This resulted in DIATEL DIREKT Kommunikations AG, of which Knoll became chairman of the board. In 2000, the merger with the German divisions of the Dutch listed company SNT NV took place, creating SNT Germany , which Knoll led into the 21st century as CEO until 2005.

After selling the last shares in SNT Deutschland AG in 2005, he again founded DFV Deutsche Familienversicherung together with Philipp JN Vogel . There he initially acted as a significant shareholder and member of the board until he became chairman of the board in May 2015 after the death of Philipp Vogel. In the insurance industry, he is considered a lateral thinker and pioneer, especially with regard to digitization . DFV Deutsche Familienversicherung AG has been listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since December 4, 2018 .

Military background

Knoll is a reserve officer in the German Bundeswehr . After completing basic military service in 1978/79, he performed military exercises and held all leadership positions that the German Army (Bundeswehr) has to offer. After his employment as commander of the PzGrenBtl 412, assignments followed as chief of staff of PzGrenBrig 41 and as head of department at FüS I 4.After planning as head of further development teaching at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg, he was the mirrored department head of FüSK III 4 in the Federal Armed Forces until February 2018 Ministry of Defense .

Social Commitment

In 2005, Knoll founded the Monday Society together with Stefan Söhngen, of which he was chairman until 2014 and is now honorary chairman. Knoll has been involved in voluntary work as Vice President of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces since 2011 . As part of this voluntary activity, from 2011 to 2015 he was responsible for the department “Economy and Professional Life” and since 2015 for the area “Recruiting and Member Service”. The introduction of the Iron Cross in miniaturized form as the symbol that unites the entire reserve goes back to his initiative. He is also a member of the Frankfurt Society and the Polytechnic Society as well as Mars & Merkur. Knoll is also a member of Eintracht Frankfurt .

Publications

In addition to his business activities, Stefan Knoll is also a publicist. In 2010 he published the book "Prussia - an example for leadership and responsibility". This was followed in 2014 by “Substitute Reservist Ernst Lemmer - a short life” as well as numerous publications in periodicals on topics of defense policy, leadership and digitization. In October 2019, Stefan Knoll published his third book “Thinking and Leading in Times of Digitization”.
