Stefan Mertesacker

Stefan Mertesacker (born July 25, 1951 ) is a football coach and functional . He has been the head of the amateur soccer department at Hannover 96 for many years .

Career

As an active footballer, Mertesacker played at Tuspo Petershütte . In 1983 he started as a youth coach at TSV Pattensen . There he built up a youth group in which one of his sons, the later national soccer player Per Mertesacker, also began playing soccer.

In the second division season 1994/95 he took over as the successor of Rolf Schafstall from October 31 to November 6, 1994 for seven days the post of head coach at Hannover 96. At this time Stefan Mertesacker was still under contract as a coach at the lower-class TSV Pattensen , so that he was loaned out by Hannover 96 as an interim coach for a game. At this point in time, Hanover was third from bottom of the table of the 2nd Bundesliga , although the team with the season's goal to achieve a place in the table in the top third with contact to the promotion ranks and had started the season with eleven new players, mainly substitutes for various first division clubs. Parallel to the sporting failure, there was violent turbulence in the club management. Under Mertesacker's leadership, Hannover 96 scored a 1-1 draw against newly promoted FSV Zwickau at their home stadium in Lower Saxony . After the game, Hannover 96 presented Peter Neururer as the new head coach.

On February 21, 2008, at the suggestion of the CEO of Hannover 96, Martin Kind , and with the approval of the Supervisory Board, Stefan Mertesacker was appointed to the Management Board of Hannover 96. There he has been a member of the club since 1995 and head of the amateur soccer department since October 2000.
