Stefan Potocki (* around 1624; † May 19, 1648 ) was a Polish nobleman , Starost von Nischyn and military leader.

biography

Stefan Potocki came from the Polish magnate family Potocki and was the son of the hetman Mikołaj Potocki and his wife Sophia Firlej .

Stefan Potocki commanded the Polish-Lithuanian troops in the battle of Showti Vody at the beginning of the Khmelnytskyi uprising against the allied troops of the Zaporozhian Cossacks under Bohdan Khmelnyzkyj and the Crimean Tatars under Tuhaj Bej . He died of gangrene due to severe gunshot wound on his left hand, three days after he at the Battle of Zhovti Vody in Tatar had fallen prisoner of war, on May 19, 1648th
