from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stefan Reichmuth (born September 20, 1994 in Grosswangen ; nickname: Stifi ) is a Swiss freestyle wrestler .

Stefan Reichmuth is a multiple Swiss junior and elite champion. Since 2010, the trained bicycle mechanic has been competing in the Swiss team championship for the Willisau wrestler club , where he is trained by Thomas Bucheli . In 2010 and 2015 you could become team champion and in 2013 you celebrated winning the bronze medal. Personally, he has been unbeaten in the domestic championship since 2012. On the international stage, the bronze medal at the Wrestling World Championships 2019 in Nur-Sultan (KAZ) and the associated qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo is his greatest success to date. At the Army World Championships 2018 in Moscow, he also took 3rd place.

On the international stage, Reichmuth is primarily trained by Nicolae Ghita . His most successful year for a long time was the 2014 season with 5th place at the European Elite Championship in Vantaa , 5th place at the European Junior Championship in Katowice and 8th place at the Junior World Championship in Zagreb . At the U23 European Championships in 2015 in Wałbrzych , he also reached 8th place. Based on these results, Reichmuth was selected by the Swiss Olympic Association for the 2015 European Games in Baku . There, however, he was unable to achieve his reputation due to a knee injury he had recently suffered. Since September 2015, Reichmuth has also been part of the Swiss Army's elite athlete support program. The intensified training brought Reichmuth further weight gain, which is why he has only competed internationally in the weight class up to 86 kg since the 2016 season. With the 5th place at the U23 European Championship 2016 in Rousse , he was able to celebrate a success there too.

After a third place at the Army World Championships in 2018, he really caused an international stir in 2019. The podium places in important tournaments did not take place for a long time and the renewed participation in the 2019 European Games in Minsk , where he was the official ambassador of Swiss Olympic , brought about moderate success with rank 10. But on September 22, 2019 at the Wrestling World Championships in Nur-Sultan, he landed the really big coup. This is the first medal in world title competitions for the Swiss Wrestling Federation since Hugo Dietsche took 3rd place at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the first ever in freestyle wrestling .
