Stefan Steinke (born February 10, 1973 in Schwerin ) is a former German handball player who was mostly used on the right wing .

The 1.84 m tall left-hander began his career at HC Empor Rostock . The nine-time junior national player came to SG Wallau / Massenheim in 1995 via VfL Gummersbach , with whom he reached the semi-finals in the 1997/98 Euro City Cup . After five years at Wallau, he moved to Bundesliga promoted VfL Hameln for the 2000/01 season , with whom he had to relegate again in 2002 . The bank clerk then joined the second division club SV Post Schwerin after 314 Bundesliga games to end his career.

On October 13, 2002, Steinke collapsed at home due to a ruptured vessel in his brain and was in an artificial coma for three weeks. Through rehabilitation, he was initially able to get a one-sided paralysis behind him, but there was always the risk of further edema, which is why he had to avoid stress and exertion. In 2013, the married father of a daughter suffered another bleeding, which has left him paralyzed on one side ever since.
