Stefanie Petermichl

Stefanie Petermichl (* 1971 ) is a German mathematician who deals with analysis.

Petermichl studied from 1991 at the University of Karlsruhe . In 1996 she went to Michigan State University , where she received her PhD from Alexander Volberg in 2000 (Some Sharp Estimates Involving the Hilbert Transform). In 2001/02 she was at the Institute for Advanced Study . From 2002 she was Tamarkin Assistant Professor at Brown University and from 2005 at the University of Texas at Austin ( tenure from 2007). From 2007 to 2009 she was a professor at the University of Bordeaux 1 in Talence. She has been a professor at the Université de Toulouse since 2009 .

She was a visiting researcher at the Hausdorff Institute in Bonn and at the MSRI (2017).

Petermichl deals with harmonic analysis , theory of the functions of several complex variables, Bellman functions and elliptic partial differential equations. In 2006 she received the Salem Prize for several important contributions to the theory of vector-valued singular operators . More precisely, she received it for the discovery of the dyadic Hilbert transformation and its applications, especially a sharp vector commutator estimate and the solution of the conjecture for the Hilbert transformation. In 2012 she received the Prix Ernest Déchelle of the Académie des sciences and became a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France . In 2017 she received an ERC Grant. In 2018 she was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro ( On the dyadic Hilbert transform ). In 2019, Petermichl is to receive an Alexander von Humboldt professorship at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Petermichl is the mother of two children.
