Stefano Bardini
Stefano Bardini (born May 13, 1836 in Pieve Santo Stefano , † September 12, 1922 in Florence ) was an Italian art dealer, painter, collector and patron.
At the age of 18 he began studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze in Florence, as a student of Bezzuoli and then of Servolini. He frequented the Caffè Michelangiolo and proved to be a talented copyist and restorer. A preserved fresco in the Villa di Triboli deals with the political topic “France rushes to Italy's aid”.
But after 1870 Bardini embarked on the art dealer career and was extremely successful as such. His clients included the Kaiser Friedrich Museum , the Louvre , the Victoria and Albert Museum and collectors such as Isabella Stewart Gardner , John Pierpont Morgan , John G. Johnson , and the couple Nélie Jacquemart - Édouard André .
Bardini bequeathed his city palace, the Palazzo Bardini, his art collection and his park adjacent to the Boboli Gardens to the city of Florence. The Palazzo Bardini houses the museum. The Museo Pietro Annigoni has been housed in the Villa Bardini since 2008 . There are also special exhibitions there.
