Johan Steffan Danielsen (born September 3, 1922 in Nólsoy , Faroe Islands , † May 28, 1976 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands) was a Faroese painter .

The autodidact Steffan Danielsen found most of the motifs for his idiosyncratic pictures in his village Nólsoy and all over the island of the same name. In his art, Steffan Danielsen gives a self-perceived impression of the landscape, original and unaffected. He is considered particularly original.

Bárður Jákupsson compares Danielsen in his book Færøernes billedkunst (Faroese visual arts) with the classic Sámal Mikines , who lived on a similarly small but much more remote and inaccessible island in the Faroe Islands : Mykines . Both islands have the most important bird colonies and both islands have only one place. In contrast to "Weltmann" Mikines, Danielsen was out of the country in Denmark only once, 1951–1956, and otherwise spent his 24 productive years at Nólsoy. At Ólavsøka 1952 he had his first, sensational exhibition in the Faroese art scene.

Steffan Danielsen has described his home island down to the last detail through his paintings - he portrayed motifs from all perspectives, of a boat on the sea, of an inaccessible rock ledge or of his kitchen window. In any light, in sun and rain, snow and fog. Everything gives the impression of deeply felt perception and truthfulness. His landscapes are mostly kept in shades of gray, but he alludes to the Faroese color nuances very sensitively.
