Steffen-Claudio Lemme (born April 1, 1965 in Erfurt ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and trade unionist . From 2009 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Professional background

After graduating from a polytechnic high school , Lemme completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic , which he completed in 1983 as a skilled worker . From 1984 to 1985 he worked on the FDGB city ​​council in Erfurt. Between 1985 and 1986 he completed a degree in social sciences at the district union school in Erfurt. From 1987 to 1989 he studied social and political science at the trade union college in Bernau . In 1990 he worked as a lifeguard and machine fitter. From 1991 to 1998 he was state youth secretary and later secretary for vocational training and occupational safety and craft in the DGB state district of Thuringia . Between 1998 and 2001 he worked as a section secretary for vocational training, handicrafts, occupational safety, youth welfare and media policy. Subsequently, he was organizational secretary of the DGB region of Central Thuringia until 2004 and then regional chairman. Since 2006 he has been state chairman of the DGB Thuringia, as well as chairman of the DGB region Central / North Thuringia and deputy district chairman of the DGB district Hesse-Thuringia. In November 2009 Renate Licht was elected as the new state chairman.

Lemme is single and has one child.

Political career

Initially, Lemme was a member of the SED . After reunification he became a member of the SPD , but resigned in 1994. It was not until 2008 that he rejoined the party. In the 2009 Bundestag elections , he ran for a direct mandate in the constituency of Kyffhäuserkreis - Sömmerda - Weimarer Land I. Although he was only able to occupy third place with 18.1% of the first votes, he nevertheless moved into the Bundestag via third place on the state list .

When the SPD state list was drawn up for the 2017 federal election, he was narrowly defeated by former SPD state chairman Christoph Matschie when he ran for third place on the list . Lemme was eventually elected to fifth place on the list, which was not enough for re-election, and thus left the Bundestag. As a direct candidate in the Bundestag constituency Eichsfeld - Nordhausen - Kyffhäuserkreis he came in fourth place with 14.3% of the votes.
