Steffen Birkner (born June 1, 1980 in Stralsund , GDR ) is a German handball coach who trains the first division club HSG Blomberg-Lippe .

Career

Steffen Birkner initially trained youth teams at Stralsund AG for over eight years . In 2008 Birkner joined the Buxtehuder SV , where he worked as a youth coordinator, as a youth coach and as a coach of the 2nd women's team playing in the 3rd division . In 2014 the female B-youth he trained won the German championship. For the 2014/15 season he took over as coach of SG Handball Rosengarten . Under his leadership, Rosengarten rose to the Bundesliga in 2015, but the team had to return to the second division a year later.

For the 2017/18 season, Birkner took over as coach of the men's team from VfL Fredenbeck , who competed in the 3rd division . He was on leave in March 2018. He has been coaching the Bundesliga club HSG Blomberg-Lippe since summer 2018 .
