Steigertal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steigertal was a short-lived municipality in the area of today's municipality Grebenhain in the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse .

history

In connection with the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities of Heisters , Wünsch-Moos and Zahmen voluntarily merged to form the municipality of Steigertal on February 1, 1971. All three districts had a total of 325 inhabitants. The seat of the mayor was Heisters.

The Steigertal community was founded on the basis of historical ties between the three previous individual communities, which went back to the early 19th century. As a result of the municipal ordinance for the Grand Duchy of Hesse of June 30, 1821, a joint mayor's office had been set up for the municipalities of Heisters, Steinfurt (until 1865), Wünsch-Moos and Zahmen. The reason was the small number of inhabitants in these villages. The mayors' association remained in existence until 1971.

With the founding of the municipality of Steigertal, the hope was associated in the three localities of preserving municipal self-determination and avoiding affiliation with one of the large municipalities planned as part of the regional reform. However, this hope very quickly turned out to be in vain, not least because of the low financial resources of the community, which is also still populous. On August 1, 1972, the municipality of Steigertal was incorporated by law into the large municipality of Grebenhain, which was founded on December 31, 1971.

Within the municipality of Grebenhain, however, the area of the former municipality of Steigertal still forms its own local district . Because of this, the three districts of Heisters, Wünsch-Moos and Zahmen have a joint mayor and local council . The name of the community, which existed for only one and a half years, also lives on in the names of various local associations.
