Steimles Welt was a German television series that was broadcast on MDR from 2013 to 2019 . The cabaret artist Uwe Steimle toured together with Michael Seidel in a Wartburg 312 with a Nagetusch caravan through the broadcasting area and visited people in Central Germany. He talked to them about their stories before and after the fall of the Wall .

Content and reception

The format is dedicated to the small, often overlooked things in life such as the Wehrsdorf farm cheese dairy, the Semmichau instrument workshop or the farmers' market in Görlitz. According to the Sächsische Zeitung, Steimle travels through Eastern Saxony with “practiced spontaneity”, and “one likes to travel with him and his subtle wit”. Since the first broadcast in 2013, Steimle has been happy to award the title “ World Heritage Site ”, for example for the Saxon roll, the afternoon nap , the Upper Lusatian national dish Teichelmauke , the gas lantern and the nasal flute . Regarding state politics, he said at the time that “every Minister-President could be in Saxony, just not a Saxon”. The then Saxon head of government Stanislaw Tillich is Sorbe and was born in Saxony. During his travels, Steimle not only talks to ordinary people, but also to celebrities such as the theologian Friedrich Schorlemmer , with whom he talked about Martin Luther and the Reformation , or the Auschwitz survivor and contemporary witness Justin Sonder . In the episode “The Magician of the East”, Karl May was the focus of attention on the occasion of his 175th birthday in February 2017. It was shot for this in the Karl May Museum in Radebeul . Steimle also met the organ builder Georg Wünning and visited the museum for license plates, traffic and registration history . Another time he met the painter Uwe Pfeifer in Halle , Gisela Weser , the world's oldest active dance teacher according to the Guinness book, in Eisleben, and the former racing cyclist Täve Schur at the Friedensfahrt Museum in Kleinmühlingen , and then a jaunt in Brandis with what is popularly known as the GDR Ikarus 55 bus called “cigar” .

In the episode broadcast in October 2017, Steimle appeared in the " Putin- Vereh-Shirt" and said that in Freiberg Cathedral an unspecified group of people would "poop behind the altar". In addition, hearsay reported that "in Mülsen [...] the Syrians stole all the trout from the river". The Leipziger Volkszeitung commented that one was not sure whether "absurd and often fake horror reports about asylum seekers should be taken here" or whether that was meant differently. This is quite typical for Steimle. After the broadcast, the “news” spread via relevant internet portals and social media accounts that refugees were also behind the alleged pollution of the cathedral .

Steimle has also performed a stage program under the same title since January 2018.

At the beginning of December 2019, the MDR announced that the program would not be continued in 2020. The reason for this is that Steimle has repeatedly questioned the independence of public service broadcasting in public statements and attested that it was “insufficiently removed from the state”. The relationship of trust is simply no longer there for a good and respectful collaboration, according to the MDR. An online petition for resumption of the show was signed by over 50,000 people.
