The Steinbach is a 2.8 km long right tributary of the Laerbach . It rises in the far north of the urban area of Borgholzhausen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Gütersloh .

From the source, the Steinbach, flowing in a north-easterly direction, forms the border with the Meller district of Wellingholzhausen and thus with Lower Saxony for about 1.3 km . After another 1.5 km, it joins the Twisselbach on the right. From here on the water is called Laerbach.
