The Steinbotnen ( Norwegian for stone boiler ) is a mountain basin in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Otto von Gruber Mountains of the Wohlthat massif, it is located on the west face of the Steinmulen .
It was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, mapped it on the basis of surveys and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
