Steinhäger
The Steinhaeger is with juniper flavored spirit . Characteristic is the elongated bottle made of brown stoneware , which is called the " jar " or colloquially "concrete dump".
Origin and Distribution
The flavored spirit has its name from the East Westphalian municipality of Steinhagen on the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest . There a total of 20 house distilleries developed there in the second half of the 19th century , producing juniper water and juniper oil. In the 21st century, two distilleries still produce Steinhäger there: the Schwarze-Schlichte company in the former H. C. König distillery and the Zum Fürstenhof Robert H. Günther distillery , which has been a subsidiary of the Kisker company from Hall since 1955 . In all larger German cities, including Berlin , there were sales companies for the aromatic spirit, which was named "Steinhäger-Urquell" in an advertisement and advertised as the "best Steinhäger in the world".
The juniper schnapps from the former König company from Steinhagen was originally called Steinhäger-Urquell. But through the motif with the ham on the jar, the Urquell became known and known as the ham hunter .
According to an EEC guideline , Steinhäger has been operating since 1989 . a. defined by its production in Steinhagen and an alcohol content of at least 38 vol .-% .
A Steinhäger has been produced in Brazil by the Doble W distillery since 1962. According to the manufacturer, the German recipe is followed with the original dosages of cereals, juniper berries, roots, seeds and bark.
