Stone box from Herrljunga
The approximately ten meter long megalithic stone box in Herrljunga ( RAÄ -Nr. Herrljunga 9: 1) in Västergötland in Sweden lies in a hill on the new cemetery.
It consists of an antechamber and a 9.5 meter long main chamber. There is a soul hole in the broken partition between the areas .
During the excavation in 1875, amber and flint objects , broken ceramic vessels, bone fragments and spirals (about 2 cm in diameter) made of bronze were found. In the chamber was a capstone weighing about 3-4 tons.
The stone box dates from the late Neolithic (1800–1500 BC), in which the dead were buried unburned. During the reconstruction in 1985, stones from a similar box were added to the box.
