Steinsdalsfossen (sometimes Øvsthusfossen ) is a waterfall in the Norwegian municipality of Kvam , about 2 kilometers west of Norheimsund . It is considered one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway.
The Steinsdalsfossen is part of the Fosselva river , which rises from the Myklavatn lake at 814 meters above sea level and flows into the Steinsdalselva river shortly after the waterfall . It was created when the river was looking for a new course in 1699 and is approx. 50 m high. A path leads behind the waterfall so that visitors can get between the rock face and the water.
At the Expo 2000 in Hanover , a 15 m high model of Steinsdalsfossen was part of the Norwegian exhibition. The Steinsdals Bridge , which spans the Steinsdalselva, leads to the waterfall from the south .
