Egil Sten Abel (born November 18, 1899 in Oslo , † December 30, 1989 in Bærum ) was a Norwegian sailor .
successes
Sten Abel, of the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening sailed, won in 1920 in Antwerp at the Olympic Games in the 7-meter class silver medal. He was a crew member of the Fornebo , the rest of the crew consisted of Christian Dick and Niels Nielsen and skipper Johan Faye , which had only one competitor with the British boat Ancora of skipper Cyril Wright . The Fornebo won the first race, but the Ancora secured victory in the second and third races and thus finished the regatta in first place.
Abel was a professional soldier. After graduating from the Naval Academy, he was promoted to lieutenant in 1928 . During the German attack on Norway in World War II , Abel led a group of volunteers in April 1940. With the capitulation of Norway in May this was dissolved again, Abel was taken prisoner of war for a period in 1940 and 1941.
