Stenocereus beneckei grows as a shrub with only a few branches, upright or curved shoots and reaches heights of 1 to 2 meters. The light green to gray-green shoots often appear whitish. They are more or less clearly floured and have a diameter of 5 to 7 centimeters. There are six to nine, widely spaced ribs , which are clearly divided into large, blunt humps. The single, blackish central spine is stiff and protruding. It is up to 4 inches long. The two to five grayish radial spines reach a length of up to 1.7 centimeters.

The ellipsoidal fruits are tuberous, up to 5 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 centimeters. The initially green fruits later turn red and contain a colorless pulp .
