Stephan Ahrens (born May 30, 1945 in Hameln ) is a German specialist in psychosomatic medicine , psychotherapy , psychiatry and neurology , additional qualification in psychoanalysis according to the training regulations of the German Psychoanalytic Association . Ahrens was also full professor of psychosomatic medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and is now the medical director of the private Hamburg specialist center for stress medicine . This company includes the "Falkenried day clinic", the outpatient clinics in Hamburg-Eppendorf and Hamburg-Poppenbüttel and, as a partner, Blomenburg Holding GmbH in Selent , where Ahrens works as a medical advisor.

Life

Stephan Ahrens studied medicine and social sciences at the universities of Heidelberg, Kiel, Hamburg and Konstanz. In 1971 he received his doctorate in medicine at the University of Hamburg , and in 1975 in social sciences at the University of Konstanz . In 1982 Stephan Ahrens completed his habilitation in the field of psychosomatics and psychotherapy at the University of Kiel .

From 1984 to 1990 Stephan Ahrens worked in the Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf . In 1990, together with the Psychosomatics Department at what is now the Asklepios West Clinic, he founded the first inpatient unit for the field of psychosomatics in Hamburg and headed it as chief physician. This was further expanded to include the field of psychosomatic pain therapy. Until he left this position, Ahrens built the department into the largest psychosomatic unit at a general hospital in the Federal Republic of Germany and expanded it to include 2 day clinics at the Hamburg-Rissen and Hamburg-Winterhude (Ulmenhof) locations.

From 1994 to 1996 he was full professor of psychosomatic medicine at the UKE, and at the same time medical director of the UKE's psychosomatic medicine department. From 1996 to 2011 he was Medical Director of the entire Asklepios West Clinic, after which Stephan Ahrens took over the medical management of the Psychosomatic Private Clinic in the Asklepios West Clinic in Hamburg and the Psychosomatic Specialist Center in Falkenried in Hamburg-Eppendorf.

Since then, Ahrens has been working as the “Medical Director” of the private practices “Tinnitus Center Eppendorf” and “Specialist Center for Stress Medicine and Psychotherapy” with branches in Hamburg-Eppendorf , Hamburg-Sasel , Othmarschen and at Rotherbaum . Since the merger of the Hamburg specialist centers with Blomenburg Holding GmbH on August 1, 2019, Stephan Ahrens has also been active as medical director in Blomenburg in Selent, Holstein .
