Stephan Froleyks

Stephan Froleyks (* 1962 in Kleve ) is a German composer and improvisation musician.

Froleyks studied tuba, drums and composition at the Hanover Music Academy and passed his concert exam at the Essen Music Academy . Since 2000 he has been teaching drums and percussion at the Musikhochschule Münster .

As a solo drummer, Froleyks performs his own works as well as contemporary composers such as John Cage , Morton Feldman , Iannis Xenakis and Helmut Lachenmann . He also performed as an improvisation musician a. a. with Jaap Blonk , Phil Minton , Paulo Álvares , Amanda Stewart , Robyn Schulkowsky , Barry Guy , Maria Kliegel , Daniel Ott , Mike Svoboda and in a duo with Tara Bouman and is the drummer of the Ensemble WIREWORKS .

Often occurs Froleyks as an improviser with self-invented instruments such as the flute machine , the diameter table , the strings tub and curly Tuba on, for which he also writes compositions. He composed commissioned works for the Expo 2000 , the Donaueschinger Musiktage , the WDR , the city of Münster and the ensemble exvoco . In addition, he wrote audio plays, drama music and multimedia works (including for the Lower Saxony State Theater Hanover, the German Theater Göttingen and the State Theater Tübingen) and created various sound installations.
