Stephan Geisler (sports scientist)

Stephan Geisler (born April 4, 1977 in Solingen ) is a German sports scientist and professor of fitness and health at the IST University in Düsseldorf. He is Vice President of the IST University for Research and Teaching and heads the Fitness and Health Department. At the German Sport University in Cologne he teaches Olympic weightlifting and leads advanced training in the field of fitness and athletic training.

Career

Geisler studied rehabilitation and prevention at the German Sport University in Cologne and, after graduating, was given a teaching position in the field of strength training. He wrote his diploma thesis on "Injuries and overuse injuries in fitness sports". His doctorate in the field of molecular sports medicine is entitled: "Analysis of molecular mechanisms of training-related skeletal muscle adaptation". The work focuses on the growth factor myostatin .

In 2013 he was appointed professor (FH) when the IST University of Management was founded. There he developed the course "Fitness Science and Fitness Economics", which consists of a mixture of sports science and economic content. In an effort to establish the concept of fitness science as a recognized sub-area of ​​sports science, he organized the first German fitness science congress in Düsseldorf in February 2018 .
