Stephan Roiss

Stephan Roiss (* 1983 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian author .

Life

Stephan Roiss studied art studies and philosophy, and completed a master’s course at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig .

In 2012 he published the story of a community service in the Gramding District Seniors Home with the story Gramding in Verlag Bibliothek der Provinz. For his graphic novel Hafen with illustrations by Silke Müller, he received the first prize of the Graz Academy in 2013 . In 2016 he was awarded the play prize for Hektora 4 3 4 as part of the Else Lasker Schüler Dramatikerpreis .

For his novel Triceratops , published by Kremayr & Scheriau , he received, among other things, a start-up grant from the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the anniversary fund grant from the Literar-Mechana . Excerpts from it were awarded the Floriana Award 2016 and the Award of the Wuppertal Literature Biennale 2018. In August 2020, the novel was on the long list of the German Book Prize .

Roiss lives as a freelance author and musician ( Äffchen & Craigs , Fang den Berg ) in Ottensheim and Graz . In addition to prose and poetry, he wrote scenic-performative texts and texts for graphic novels. Some radio plays were broadcast by Deutschlandradio Kultur , SWR and MDR , among others .
