Baron Stephan von Ljubičić , Croatian Stjepan barun Ljubičić (born September 25, 1855 in Vrginmost , Croatia ; † August 16, 1935 in Vienna ), was an Austro-Hungarian officer of Croatian descent, most recently a field warden with the title of Hungarian nobility .

biography

Stephan Ljubičić was born in Vrginmost as the son of a middle-class kk lieutenant . After his upbringing in the military training center in Banati Weißkirchen and then in the military training center in Kamenitz and Güns , he attended the technical school in Mährisch Weißkirchen . He then entered the Austro-Hungarian Technical Military Academy , where he completed the higher artillery course and the Austro-Hungarian artillery shooting school .

On September 1, 1877 he was assigned as a lieutenant to the field artillery regiment No. 6 until January 1, 1883 for four years, during which he was promoted to captain 1st class (May 1, 1888). was used in the general staff, 1893/94 chief of staff in the Krakow fortress command combined with the promotion to major (May 1, 1894).

From 1894 to 1898 you found Ljubičić, since November 1, 1896 lieutenant colonel, in the 6th department of the Ministry of War again.

On May 1, 1900, Ljubičić was promoted to Colonel and Chief of Staff of the 10th Artillery Corps, where he replaced Colonel Heinrich Kummer von Falkenfeld . He held this post until his appointment as major general on May 1, 1906 (rank of May 8, 1906), combined with the post of commander of the 18th Infantry Brigade Division.

1909-1910 he was in command of the 13th Landwehr Infantry Division, advancing to field marshal lieutenant (appointment May 1, 1910, rank May 17, 1910). On the day the rank was confirmed, he changed positions again until the beginning of the war and became head of section in the Austro-Hungarian Ministry of Defense.

At the beginning of the First World War, Ljubičić succeeded the cavalry general Desiderius Kolossváry de Kolosvár as commander of the 45th Landwehr Infantry Division and was appointed Feldzeugmeister on October 7, 1914 (rank of November 1, 1914). Since September 1914 Ljubičić was the commanding general of the kuk XI. Corps that he led during the battle of Limanowa - Lapanow . In March 1915, his command passed to Ignaz Edler von Korda and Ljubičić finally became the commander of the "Ljubičić Group". In August 1916 Ljubičić was listed as "kuk Feldzeugmeister, on leave with waiting fee".

Ljubičić was raised to the Austrian hereditary baron status on August 8, 1916 by handwriting from Emperor Franz Joseph I and received a coat of arms ; the corresponding diploma was issued on August 24, 1916 in Vienna. He died on August 16, 1935 in Vienna and was buried there on August 20 in a Catholic ceremony.
