Stephanos Geroulanos
Stephanos Geroulanos ( Greek Στέφανος Γερουλάνος , born June 4, 1940 near Athens ) is a Greek surgeon .
Geroulanos' family comes from Kefalonia , his grandfather was the surgeon Marinos Geroulanos . Stephanos Geroulanos grew up as the son of the archaeologist Johannes Geroulanos in the midst of archaeological artifacts. His interest in ancient art, especially vase painting, was aroused early on. When Geroulanos began his medical studies, he developed a special interest in images with a medical-historical context. During this time he began to create an archive with pictures of ancient works of art on this topic, which has grown into an important photo documentation to this day.
Stephanos Geroulanos worked for many years as a visceral surgeon and professor at the University Hospital Zurich . In the early 1990s he was appointed director of the Onassis Heart Center in Athens.
