Stephen Dobyns

Stephen Dobyns (born February 19, 1941 in Orange , New Jersey ) is an American writer .

Life

Stephen Dobyns grew up in New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia and Pennsylvania, studied at Shimer College in Chicago and Wayne State University in Detroit, and received his MFA degree from the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa in 1967 .

Dobyns has published numerous novels and volumes of poetry since the early 1970s, including a number of detective novels about the private detective Charlie Bradshaw, all of which are based in the small town of Saratoga Springs in New York State, which has become famous for its racecourse .

Stephen Dobyns has taught literature at various universities and lives in Westerly , Rhode Island .
