Stephen Jones (born September 16, 1962 in Telford ) is an English musician and author. He became known through his band Babybird .

Stephen Jones was born on September 16, 1962 in Telford, England. He spent his youth in New Zealand . Since the age of 18 he lived again in England , first in Nottingham , from 1996 in Sheffield , where he started Babybird, then in Manchester and finally in London , the city that offered him the anonymity he was looking for on the one hand and the Proximity to the heart of the music industry .

From 1993 onwards, Jones had recorded over 400 songs (in appropriate Lo-Fi quality ) in his one-room apartment with a four-track recorder . In 1995 he founded his own record company Baby Bird Recordings and released four albums in a row within just six months , on which only his compositions could be heard. In 1996 he got a recording deal and formed the band Baby Bird. Some tracks from the first four albums and some new recordings appeared in October 1996 on the album Ugly Beautiful .

On March 3, 2003, Stephen Jones released the solo album Almost Cured of Sadness ( Sanctuary / Rough Trade ). Another album with the title Plastic Tablets 2002 with four CDs followed on September 25, 2003 . Also in 2003, Jones wrote the soundtrack for the film Blessed . The film never came out and was only released on DVD in 2004. The soundtrack was never published on the grounds that the titles would lose their impact without the images.

At the end of 2006, Babybird returned with the album Between My Ears There's Nothing but Music . This was released in Germany in February 2008 by the Popup label (Cargo Records). On November 10, 2008 the double album Death of the Neighborhood followed , which was also published as a solo project by Stephen Jones.

His own projects were Stephen Jones enough time to also projects the band The Lightning Seeds , Aim or All Seeing I introduce. For some of these collaborations Jones lent his voice to the bands or acted as the writer for some titles.

Pieces by Jones can also be found on numerous compilations . Together with Luke Scott, he reinterpreted the title We All Make the Little Flowers Grow by Lee Hazlewood in 2002 for the compilation Total Lee , for which many well-known bands re-recorded songs by the American singer Lee Hazlewood.

Jones has been publishing under the name "Black Reindeer" since Babybird was dissolved.

In addition to his musical career, Jones wrote two novels.
