Stern Emden (officially: Association for Movement Games Stern Emden 1921 eV ) was a sports club in Emden . The first soccer team played in the 1960/61 season in Lower Saxony's highest amateur league. In 2011 the club merged with SV Amisia Wolthusen to form SV Amisia Stern Wolthusen.

history

The association was founded on January 15, 1921 by dock workers . By winning the East Friesland Championship in 1930, the team made it to the second highest division. Two years later, the juniors won the North German Championship. After the young players moved up into the first team, Stern reached the promotion round to the Lower Saxony Gauliga in 1935 , where they finished fourth behind Rasensport Harburg , VfL Osnabrück and SV Linden 07 .

After the Second World War , Stern was promoted to the third-class Amateur League 1 in 1951 . At the end of the 1950s, the Emder were among the top teams in the league and won the championship in 1960 and, after a successful promotion round, promotion to the Lower Saxony- West amateur league . The second highest division overwhelmed the Stern team, which was ten points behind a non-relegation place last.

In 1964, Stern was able to qualify for the newly created Association League North , from which they were promptly relegated. Two years later, the team returned, but had to relegate after a 2: 3 defeat in the decider against Rot-Weiß Scheeßel . In 1973, Stern slipped into the district league. A last return to higher-class leagues was achieved in 1986 with promotion to the Weser / Ems regional league .

In 2009, Stern Emden formed a gaming community together with long-time local rivals SuS Emden . The sports fields of the two clubs are right next to each other in the Herrentor district . The rivalry arose not only from this geographical proximity, the clubs were also about the same age (SuS was founded in 1919). In contrast to the VfB Stern, however, SuS is not a club whose roots can be seen expressly in workers' sport.

At VfB Stern, a significant decline in the number of members had already become noticeable in the 2000s; it was only 90 in 2011. This made it necessary to think about a club merger, which would also have been an option for pupils. However, the members of the neighboring association refused to merge. When looking for another partner, the Sterner found what they were looking for in the northern neighboring district of Wolthusen . With the local SV Amisia Wolthusen consultations and negotiations began on the merger, which was finally confirmed by the general meetings of both clubs. The constituent meeting of what is now SV Amisia Stern Wolthusen took place in November 2011.

The new club uses both the sports facilities of the previous SV Amisia and the sports field of the former VfB Stern, which is equipped with a grandstand, and is also entitled to use another sports field that is shared with SuS Emden.
