Steven "Steve" Fitzsimmons (born September 7, 1976 in Liverpool , Liverpool City ) is a former Australian football player . The midfielder played in the A-League for the New Zealand Knights , Queensland Roar and Gold Coast United .

Career

Fitzsimmons first played in 2001 at Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League (NSL). In 2002 he moved to the Marconi Stallions , the last season before hiring the NSL he spent with the Brisbane Strikers . In 2005 he signed with the New Zealand Knights , who competed in the newly formed A-League . After a catastrophic season (6 points from 21 games, 1 win) he left the Knights again and switched to the Queensland Roar back to Australia within the league. There he only came to one use during the season and then went back to amateur football. In the state of Queensland he first played at Palm Beach in the Brisbane Premier League (top division in the Brisbane district) and the following season at Beenleigh in the Brisbane Premier League Division 1 (second top division in the Brisbane district).

Due to his performance at Beenleigh, he received a contract offer from Gold Coast United , which will participate in the A-League for the first time in 2009/10 . In September 2008, the 32-year-old was introduced as one of the first commitments for the coming season. After the 2010/11 season he ended his professional career and took a position as assistant coach at Gold Coast United.
