Steven Smith (born August 30, 1985 in Bellshill , Scotland ) is a Scottish footballer in the service of the Glasgow Rangers .
Career
Smith played for the Glasgow Rangers when he was young. During this time he suffered a severe pelvic injury that almost meant he had to end his career before he even played a league game. But he recovered from the injury and finally made his league debut against Heart of Midlothian in October 2003 . However, Smith only established himself in the starting eleven in the winter of the 2005/06 season. He played for the first time in the Champions League against Villarreal on February 22, 2006 and signed a two-year extension of his contract in the same year. In April 2006 he was named the best young player of the month and from that moment on he had finally secured his place in the team.
Smith was called up in October 2006 in the squad of the Scottish national team for the European Championship qualifiers against France and Ukraine , but he injured his thigh during this time and could not play either game.
On November 11, 2006, Smith scored his first goal for his employer in a 2-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic . In the winter of the 2005/06 season, Smith injured his pelvis again and did not play for the Glasgow Rangers for over a year.
In the summer of 2010, Smith moved to Norwich City , where he signed for 2 years. On January 31, 2011 he moved to the Scottish first division club FC Aberdeen on loan until the end of the season .
