Steven Woolfe (born October 6, 1967 in Manchester ) is a British politician (formerly UK Independence Party ).

Life

Woolfe is of African-American , Irish Catholic, and Jewish descent and grew up in Manchester . He studied law . After he had qualified as a barrister , he did not work in the profession of lawyer, but turned to the financial industry. He is a legal advisor within a company that looks after hedge funds , banks and oil companies, among others .

politics

Woolfe is UKIP's spokesman for the party's Black & Minority Ethnic Association and UKIP's representative to the City of London . Until July 2014, he was UKIP's spokesperson on migration and financial matters.

Woolfe has been a member of the European Parliament since the 2014 European elections . There he is a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .

On October 6, 2016, Woolfe had to be treated in a hospital for several days after a physical argument with his colleague Mike Hookem at a UKIP meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels . Following the incident, Woolfe stated that he no longer had any intentions, as originally intended, of running to succeed the surprisingly resigned UKIP chairman, Diane James . Instead, he will leave the party. After the UKIP's successful EU exit referendum and after the resignation of former chairman Nigel Farage in June / July 2016, this had become “ungovernable”. UKIP is "in a downward spiral".
