Stevinus is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , south of Mare Fecunditatis , northwest of Furnerius crater and southwest of Snellius and the lunar valley Vallis Snellius, which runs in a southeastern direction northwest of Stevinus . The crater is hardly eroded, has pronounced terracing and a central mountain in the flat interior .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Flemish mathematician and physicist Simon Stevin .
