The Steyr II is a passenger car of the luxury class , which the OEWG ( Oesterreichische Waffenfabriks Society ) (1926: Steyr-Werke ) as the first automobile in 1920 brought out. Due to its origins, the car was also known as the "weapon car". The Steyr II was designed by Hans Ledwinka , who came to OEWG in 1917 as chief designer from the Nesselsdorfer Wagenbaufabrik (from 1923: Tatra ). The car had a 6-cylinder OHC in-line engine in monoblock design at the front, which drove the rear wheels via a 4-speed gearbox. By 1924, 2150 copies of this vehicle - also known as 12/40 hp - were produced.

In 1924 the slightly larger successor model V appeared .
